That has served me very well over the years.
But strengths have a way of finding attractive names for themselves.
Sometimes I have told myself:
“I just need to make sure the quality is there.”
Then I have taken the project back into my own hands.
Or added work nobody asked for.
Or gone beyond what we agreed because I felt the result was not quite good enough.
Quality control?
Perhaps.
But sometimes over-servicing has simply put on its work clothes and started calling itself professionalism.
That is an uncomfortable question because professionalism matters to me.
I want to do good work.
But when does the extra work stop being about the client and start being about my own need to be beyond reproach?
I think I am still learning the difference.
